Let’s take a closer look at one of its steps : thickness control by XRF.
XRF is an analysis method that can accurately measure coating thicknesses. When X-rays penetrate the coating material, fluorescence phenomenon resulting from interaction with chemical elements, will emit a range of characteristic X-rays. The intensity and wavelengths of the signal will then determine the thickness of the coating, thanks to a preliminary calibration.
