What are the key mechanisms of zinc flake coating technologies?

Advancing Zinc Flake Corrosion Protection Through Science, Testing & Real-World  Validation.

During the DSV-Oberflächentag 2026 in Würzburg, our colleague Frank Schwabe presented the latest insights into the corrosion protection performance of GEOMET® water-based zinc flake coatings, highlighting the key mechanisms that make these technologies a trusted solution across demanding industries:

✔️ Low thickness corrosion protection combining barrier effect, sacrificial protection, adhesion performance, and self-healing capabilities.

✔️ Proven performance through rigorous testing, validated not only by standard Neutral Salt Spray testing (ISO 9227 NSS) but also by some of the most demanding automotive cyclic corrosion tests, including VDA 233-102, VW PV 1210, and Volvo ACT-I.

✔️ Real-world outdoor exposure results, with long-term weathering studies conducted in diverse environments ranging from marine and urban to industrial atmospheres at multiple locations across France, including Dunkerque, Creil, and Palavas-les-Flots.

These evaluations provide valuable insights into how zinc flake coating technologies perform in conditions that closely reflect real service environments.

👏 Thank you to the Deutscher Schraubenverband (DSV) for organizing an excellent event, and to everyone who joined the discussion and shared their expertise
